A few people have asked for it, so here it is. From time to time people ask me what I think of whatever application, book, hardware... My brother in law asked a lot of questions about a new digital reflex, and he went with what I advised. He seems happy enough. I'm also the family "computer guy", so if my family or Lolo's family have questions, they come straight to me. This is about personal computers for writing a thesis, a home computer to read emails or even business computers for my father, and even servers and dedicated Internet servers. When it comes to books, I mainly read in English and technical titles, so my friends ask a lot less questions on that, but my view is still appreciated. As for software, well, apart from my brother in law who has radically different needs, again the whole family asks my advice at some point or another. What should I use? This? Or this? Then you ask a few questions, what do you need it for? What will your needs be in a year from now? Will you change hardware? Then I factor everything in and make the best choice possible, without bias to my personal favourite or foe. Yes, I've suggested Windows on home computers, because even if I am a Linux geek and I'd love to see Linux a little bit everywhere, Windows is still easier for the majority of people, including general use and hardware support. And just imagine, if I told people to use Linux everywhere, I'd be flooded doing help-desk work! So here we go for a new section, I hope you'll like it!
